Classification of rice genetic diversity aims to study the genetic relationship and reduce the duplication of collected rice varieties in the National Rice Seed Storage Laboratory for Genetic Resources. Cluster analysis of the morphological and agronomic traits of 211 rice varieties was calculated by Simple Matching and Square Euclidean as well as clustered by UPGMA and Ward method, respectively. Cluster based on morphology having 6 main groups indicated that the highest number of members within the group was Group 1 consisting of 137 rice varieties, followed by Group 2, 3, 15, 6 and 9 consisting of 16, 12, 6, 5 and 3 rice varieties, respectively. Cluster by agronomic traits having 9 main groups showed that the highest number of members was Group3...

Eight improved clones of forage-cane were evaluated for biomass yield performance under irrigatedcondition at Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen campus, Nakhon Pathom during 2011-2012. The study wasdesigned with randomized complete blocks design with 4 replications in 3 crop-cycles, newly planted, first-ratoon and second ratoon that harvested at 6, 4 and 4 month after planting/ratooning, respectively. Total fresh biomass yield from 3 crop-cycles was 40.47 ton/rai. The total yield of 3 crop-cycles varied between 27.44 and 46.46 ton/rai. High biomass yield obtained from the new clones 28-2113, 28-2114 and 28-1727 that were equal to 46.46, 44.86 and 42.96 ton/rai, respectively. Although, three new forage-cane clones had high potential of biomass yield....

Blast disease is a major rice disease causing significant rice yield loss worldwide. These are several methods to control this disease, but the most effective and most suitable method is to use blast resistant varieties. Prachin Buri Rice Research Center has released a rice variety ‘Bahng Taen’, which is resistant to blast in the Eastern region. Bahng Taen is a non-glutinous, photoperiod insensitive, early maturity variety with high yielding ability. However, the ability to resist to blast of this variety is declining drastically. It is, therefore, necessary to improve blast resistance in Bahng Taen by introgressing blast resistant genes into its background from two donors; PSL’07F6No.2 and PSL’07F6No.5. These two resistant lines were derived from the...

Blast disease is a major rice disease causing significant rice yield loss over the world. It is believed that growing a resistance variety is the most effective strategy for blast disease management. Bahng Taen is one of the released Thai rice varieties primarily found to be resistance to blast disease in the Eastern region. Nowadays, the resistance has decreased drastically. The variety is a non-glutinous, non-photoperiod insensitive, short duration of maturity with high yielding characteristic. In this project, a marker-assisted backcrossing strategy was applied in order to improve blast resistance in Bahng Taen by introgression of resistant genes from donors; PSL’07F6No.2 and PSL’07F6No.5 into this variety. Flanking markers RM212/RM319 and RM224/RM144...
